Reports & Export: Screenshot & Video
Export images and videos of your stone for presentations, social media, or promotional material.
Screenshot
Click Export → Screenshot. Your browser downloads a PNG image of the current 3D viewport view.
What it captures:
- The stone exactly as you see it on screen — same angle, same render mode (Solid or Realistic), same theme (Light or Dark).
- All viewport overlays: tier colors, edges, spin motion — if it's visible in the editor, it's in the screenshot.
Tips for good screenshots:
- Switch to Realistic render mode to show color, fire, and refraction.
- Rotate the stone to an appealing angle (Iso view is usually best).
- Enable Auto-rotate to let the stone spin, then grab a screenshot when it looks good.
- Use Studio background for a professional look with environment reflections.
- Export from Realistic mode to capture the full visual impact.
The file is named after your design (e.g., round-brilliant.png). Resize it as needed for your use case (social media typically wants square or portrait).
Video
Click Export → Video. GemDiagram records a video of the rotating stone, capturing 30 seconds of the stone spinning at the current angle.
Recording details:
- Resolution: 1920×1080 (1080p), scaled to fit your browser.
- Format: MP4 (widely supported on web and social media).
- Duration: Typically 30 seconds.
- Capture mode: The viewport locks to that resolution while recording — the live view pauses until recording finishes.
Video tips:
- Switch to Realistic mode before recording for the best visual impact.
- Choose a good starting angle (Iso is classic).
- The stone will auto-rotate continuously during recording.
- Export from a quiet, focused moment (not while actively editing).
The video is named after your design (e.g., round-brilliant.mp4). Upload it to social media, embed it in a website, or use it in a presentation.
Social media and web use
Screenshots and videos are perfect for:
- Instagram/TikTok: A 30-second video of a sparkling gemstone is eye-catching. Export in portrait mode.
- Website product pages: Embed a video or use a screenshot as the hero image.
- Email newsletters: A GIF or video of the stone in motion grabs attention.
- Presentations: A screenshot or short video adds visual interest to a pitch.
Render mode matters
- Solid mode: Fast, flat colors. Good for technical diagrams or when file size matters.
- Realistic mode: Slow, ray-traced with refraction, dispersion, and body color. Stunning for promotional material.
Realistic mode videos and screenshots are much larger and take longer to export, but they look professional.
Combining with other content
- PDF report + screenshot: Email a PDF cutting report with a promotional screenshot to a customer.
- .facet file + social media: Archive the
.facetand post a video clip on Instagram.
